Former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol has avoided the death penalty, after being convicted of masterminding an insurrection, over his failed martial law declaration in 2024.  

Instead, he has been sentenced to life in prison.  

Yoon is already serving time behind bars for abuse of power related to the martial law declaration.

An alleged child abuse incident that went viral on social media is actually several months old.

According to the KL police chief, the incident actually happened in December.  

The suspect was arrested in mid-December after the victim's mother lodged an official complaint, and he was charged in court shortly after Christmas.  

He adds, anyone with info on possible abuse cases can contact the KL police hotline or nearest police station.

Separately, cops say a man is in stable condition in hospital, after he reportedly lost a leg while playing with fireworks outside his house in Segamat, Johor.

Local police will record his statement once he recovers.

Selangor's Islamic Dept says those caught not fasting in public can face a fine of up to RM1,000 and six months in prison.  

However, it has no plans to impose alternative penalties, such as transporting offenders inside hearse vans.
