Pang Ron-Pei Jing Pull Off Shock Win In China

Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing are through to the quarterfinals of the China Badminton Masters. 

This, after the Malaysians pulled off a surprise straight sets win over their higher-ranked opponents from China. 

Compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Soh Wooi Yik-Aaron Tai are also through after their respective wins in the last-16. 

However, Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah are out after a hard-fought three sets loss to their Thai opponents.

The haze that is affecting parts of the country is also taking a toll on sporting events. 

Dr Ahmad Munawwar, a sports medicine specialist with the National Sports Institute told Astro Arena these events will have to either be moved indoors, relocated to areas with better air quality, or cancelled…since the health of athletes and coaches is the top priority.

Defending champions Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz are both safely through to the third round of the US Tennis Open after beating their respective opponents. 

And, Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar will be out of this weekend’s Italian F1 GP, missing his second race in a row as he recovers from a wrist injury.
